[V2 Interlude] Poppo Dance
Translated by Jodas 2: Daily Lives of a New Teacher and the Apprentice MagesAh, how awful. My shoes are dirty, and my Crystal Rivet is cracked. It’s the worst feeling~……. Mumbling to himself, the form of one man walked through the forest.
He wore elegant clothes that were out of place in this desolate forest. A handsome man with carefully groomed lustrous blond hair and pale skin—The greater Monster Jill who had left the Crystal Territory grumbled that he would turn around and go home with every step, but ultimately followed alongside Jack as far as he could go.
He wanted to see how far the magical beasts could go with the Crystal Rivets embedded in them, and he figured he could always wait for nighttime, then fly back home.
Above all else, It was his first time out of the Crystal Territory in ages. If possible, he wanted to take this chance to abduct a human and suck their blood. He had hoped for a young, beautiful, virgin girl. The best would be if that girl fell for Jill’s looks and carelessly dedicated a love song to him.
Regardless, he hasn’t seen any signs of humans at all. Perhaps it was only natural—he was deep in the forest, far from any villages.
(I wonder if Jack has found any humans yet~…….Hmm?)
As he walked, he caught sight of a silhouette through the trees and came to a halt.
It was a human. A man about thirty or forty years old wearing a robe—that meant he was probably a Wedge Tower mage.
The man raised both hands to the sky and shouted something.
“Poppoppo!! Poppoppo!!”
He looked desperate.
“Poppoppo!! Poppoppo!!”
What on earth is this? It’s scary. Jill, the Monster, was taken aback by this human man.
The man continued shouting for a while, but eventually clenched his fists.”Grr……” He gritted his teeth in frustration.
Deep creases appeared on his forehead.
“I have no choice, then……I must unleash the Poppo Dance……”
(Poppo Dance?)
Jill’s interest was piqued, if only a little bit.
He admired the artistic talent of humans that gave birth to new songs, dances, and paintings. Jill especially had a taste for elegant performances.
The human man made a face of bitter determination as he flapped the sleeves of his robe, and lifted one arm up.
Then, he began to sing in a low, gritty voice.
Are you ready? (POPPO!)
Poppo, poppoppopo (HEY!)
Poppo, poppoppopo (HEY!)
As if there was an audience in front of. him, the man raised a finger and pointed to the left and the right.
Then, in time with the rhythm, he swayed his body and started stepping from side to side.
Mppo, mppo, poppopo
Mppo, mppo, poppopo
Poppo, poppoppopo? (OK!)
Poppo, poppopopo? (YEAH!)
While hooting poppoppo, the man spun around in place.
Beads of sweat on his face shone brilliantly, bathed in sunlight.
Popporo! Poppo, popopopo!
Polulupoppo, poppopo!
Poppo? (HEY!)
Poppo? (OK!)
Pooooooooo…… Oooh! Wooow!
Facing the sky, shouting “Ooh, wow!” the man dropped his head with heavy breaths and fixed his gaze forward.
Then. he lifted two fingers on his right hand and brought them up to his forehead.
…….Thank you, poppo!
Then, a single pigeon flapped down from the sky, landing on the man’s head. “Three!!” The man shouted mysteriously.
With dead eyes, Jill elected to turn back to the north from whence he came.
He’d hoped the first human he would meet after leaving the Crystal Territory would be a young, beautiful girl.
The moment he had thought it would be nice if the girl fell for his looks and sang him a love song…….all he got was the Poppo Dance.
(…………I’m going home.)
The Monster, defeated by the Poppo Dance, walked unsteadily back the way he came.
Post-script
The Empire doesn’t have an anglophone vibe to it, but I thought it would be easier to communicate the tone of the lyrics to frame it like an English pop song. That’s why he leads with Are you ready? Please forgive me.
That said, the Smoke Fox is singing all the lyrics in the ( ) brackets by himself as well.
